The memstick is an img file, it just doesn't have the file extension on it. You can add the extension if your program requires it for some reason.  I've considered changing the file names in the next major release.  

For the memstick, in windows you can use a program called Image Writer for Windows (https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/) and for MacOS/*BSD/Linux, you can just use dd to write the file to the flash drive.

As for ISOs, any DVD burning program will work.  You will need to use a DVD-R because the files are a little too big for a CD.  On MidnightBSD or FreeBSD, there is an included utility burncd for this purpose.
